The Roles
Assistant Director of Equity & Justice
£80,531 - £96,364 p.a.
Location: London
Be part of our mission to become a Borough of Equity and Justice
We’ve set ourselves a bold mission. We want to make Lambeth a Borough of Equity and Justice.
This is a borough of diversity, connectivity, full of excitement and opportunity. We have long been the home to radicals and reformers, entrepreneurs and innovators – people who worked together to help change the lives of others and their own.
Our history has been uniquely shaped by this activism – creating a welcoming borough with social justice at its core. We are the home of the Windrush Generation and have the largest LGBTQ+ community in London. We are a borough of sanctuary, providing safe havens for those who need it most. Over 150 languages are spoken in our diverse borough, with growing Spanish, Portuguese and South American communities. It is this rich combination of difference that makes Lambeth such a special and exciting place to live and work.
We have many strengths to build on but we are committed to going further, driving change for our community and our workforce. Being a borough of equity and justice is the golden thread that runs through our Lambeth 2030 Borough Plan. It’s a bold, shared vision for Lambeth with social and climate justice at its heart.
Our new Assistant Director for Equity and Justice will lead on tackling racism and discrimination as it manifests across our borough and for our workforce. You’ll be working as part of a new Community Partnerships Unit also dedicated to tackling poverty and working with our thriving community sector to make Lambeth a fairer and more equitable borough.
In short, you’ll lead on developing our delivery approach, drawing together colleagues and partners across the Council and the borough. Working with the Chief Executive, senior leaders, and the Leader and Cabinet, you’ll develop, deliver and implement key programmes that have a tangible impact on changing experiences and outcomes across Lambeth. You will focus both on the community, working with residents, community groups and partners to develop new ways of closing inequality gaps, and on our workforce, helping to improve diversity, competence and progression for our workforce. Whatever the challenge you will approach it through establishing strong relationships and using the latest research intelligence and insights.
You will have a proven track record of creating change and improving outcomes at scale, developing strategies, using data, working in partnership and across organisational boundaries and developing high-performing delivery-focused teams. Your knowledge and understanding of equity and justice and the issues facing a diverse borough like Lambeth will be second to none. We’ll also be looking for inspirational corporate leadership, a determination to deliver, a collaborative approach that recognises the work that has gone before you and experience of delivering impact in a large, complex organisation.
If you share our energy, values, and ambition, join us as we embark on our most exciting chapter yet and help us write history for the next generation.
